Prostate Specific Antigen by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: PSA IHC
Use
This test provides immunohistochemical (IHC) staining for prostate specific antigen (PSA) in tissue or cell samples, serving as a technical service (“stain and return”) to help determine whether isolated metastases or tissue are of prostatic origin. It is generally used in pathology workup when determining tissue morphology and origin.
Special Instructions
Request via electronic order or use ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) if electronic ordering is unavailable. Use ARUP supply #47808 specimen transport kit. This is a stain-and-return (technical) service only.
Limitations
Unacceptable specimens include non-representative tissue types and depleted specimens. Precautions include protecting paraffin blocks or slides from excessive heat and not oven‑baking precut slides. Frozen specimens are unacceptable; only ambient or refrigerated storage/transport is acceptable. Adequate material is required (e.g., tissue block or minimum two unstained slides).
