Protein C and S Panel, Total, Antigen
Also known as: C/S TOTAL
Use
The Protein C and S Panel, Total, Antigen is used for the detection of protein C and S deficiencies. These deficiencies are associated with an increased risk of venous thrombosis. The test is relevant in clinical evaluations for patients suspected of having a thrombotic disorder and helps in understanding the underlying causes of coagulation anomalies.
Special Instructions
This test is not recommended for patients on warfarin therapy in the previous 2-4 weeks as it may affect the results. It is advised to order Protein C, Functional and Protein S Free, Antigen as preferred tests for detecting protein C and S deficiencies.
Limitations
The test cannot be reliably used for individuals who have been on warfarin therapy within the last two weeks since warfarin can lead to decreased levels of protein C and S, potentially leading to misleading results. Additionally, serum, EDTA plasma, clotted or hemolyzed specimens are unacceptable, which may limit the ability to perform the test if these types of specimens are inadvertently collected.
