Trofile (DNA) Co-Receptor Tropism
Also known as: TROFI DNA
Use
The test is intended for use in patients with an undetectable viral load to determine the tropism of the HIV-1 virus, specifically whether the virus uses CCR5 or CXCR4 co-receptors, which is crucial for patients being considered for CCR5 antagonist therapy. This determines viral tropism using a pseudovirion-based assay with HIV-1 envelope sequences tested in a cell-based viral infectivity assay.
Special Instructions
The test is not performed at ARUP Laboratories. Separate specimens must be submitted if multiple tests are ordered. Additionally, the test is performed by Monogram Biosciences, a subsidiary of Labcorp, and compliance and performance characteristics have been established independently by Labcorp.
Limitations
The test should not be used as the sole criterion for patient management. It uses patient-derived cell-associated viral DNA and may not accurately reflect all viral populations within a patient. Results near the limit of detection may be variable upon subsequent testing.
