Vaginitis Panel by TMA
Also known as: VPAN TMA
Use
The Vaginitis Panel by TMA aids in diagnosing bacterial vaginosis, vulvovaginal candidiasis, and trichomoniasis. It detects Trichomonas vaginalis, Candida glabrata, and other Candida species including C. albicans, C. parapsilosis, C. dubliniensis, and C. tropicalis. The test is significant for patients presenting symptoms consistent with these infections but is not valid for the evaluation of suspected sexual abuse or for forensic purposes. Negative results do not preclude the possibility of an infection, and results should be correlated with other clinical data.
Special Instructions
Not recommended for patients under 14 years of age. Patient must be 14 years of age or older for this test. Specimens collected should be from a vaginal swab using the Aptima MultiTest Swab Collection kit, which can be obtained through ARUP’s supply channels. Ensure to follow collection instructions precisely to prevent rejection.
Limitations
The panel does not differentiate among organisms in the Candida species group and does not provide information on the susceptibility of detected organisms. It is crucial that this test is used alongside other clinical data to interpret a negative result accurately. Additionally, the test is not validated for specimens collected by patients at home.
