Suggested Custom Slice - Obesity
Use
The GeneDx Suggested Custom Slice – Obesity test uses a “Slice” approach, where exome sequencing is performed but analysis is restricted to a custom‑selected gene list. It is appropriate when there is a defined phenotype related to obesity and a suitable comprehensive clinical test is unavailable, enabling focused genomic analysis while utilizing exome‑level data. This custom panel does not report ACMG secondary findings unless they are on the selected gene list.
Special Instructions
Ordering requires submission of a gene list via GeneDx’s online Slice Tool. GeneDx reviews and approves the list within approximately 3 business days, issuing a unique tracking identifier that must accompany the sample. This test is carried out only for the proband unless specified family members (e.g., trio) are included; parental samples may be optionally submitted but only the proband report is generated. Informed consent must acknowledge that secondary findings are only returned if included in the custom list.
Limitations
Secondary findings outside the custom gene list are not reported. Analysis is limited to the requested gene set; variants in genes not included are not evaluated or returned. Prior exome testing at GeneDx (e.g., XomeDx) may be required or recommended.
