Invitae Mendelian Disorders with Psychiatric Symptoms Panel
Use
The Invitae Mendelian Disorders with Psychiatric Symptoms Panel analyzes genes associated with metabolic disorders and neurologic conditions presenting with psychiatric symptoms. Such symptoms include altered mental status, confusion, coma, impaired executive functioning, mood disorders, dissociative episodes, decline in cognitive ability, delusions, visual/auditory hallucinations, and schizophrenia-like or psychotic episodes. This testing may confirm an underlying metabolic disorder diagnosis, aiding treatment and management. It also provides risk assessment and carrier status for relatives.
Special Instructions
The panel does not evaluate repeat expansions or mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and excludes genes associated with multifactorial psychiatric disease risks. It targets known Mendelian conditions resulting in psychiatric symptoms. Genetic counseling is advised for individuals under 18 considering adult-onset disorder testing.
Limitations
The assay does not cover sequence changes in promoter regions, non-coding exons, and other non-covered regions. Single-exon copy number events may not be analyzed due to sequence properties or data quality. Structural rearrangements or variants with complex sequences may not be detected. Any limitations in gene analysis will be listed on the report.
