Amenorrhea Profile
Use
The Amenorrhea Profile is used to evaluate hormone levels such as follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and prolactin in patients with absent menstruation. These hormones help assess ovarian function and pituitary gland function, thereby aiding in identifying potential causes of amenorrhea, which can include hormonal imbalances or pituitary disorders.
Special Instructions
Patients should be cautioned to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to the collection of a sample, as high doses of biotin (vitamin B7, B8, vitamin H, or coenzyme R) can interfere with the test results. It is recommended to inquire about biotin supplementation from all patients undergoing this test.
Limitations
The test may exhibit interference in samples collected from people who are consuming high levels of biotin. Results could be affected by this interference, leading to inaccurate hormone level readings. The stability of the sample is crucial as samples must be handled and stored correctly to prevent degradation and ensure accurate hormone quantification.
