Autoimmune Epilepsy Evaluation Profile
Also known as: Autoimmune Epilepsy Panel, Paraneoplastic
Use
For the detection of antineuronal autoantibodies that help in the diagnosis of paraneoplastic syndromes and autoimmune encephalopathies and related conditions
Special Instructions
The test should be considered for differential diagnosis in cases of seizures with unknown origin and for evaluating paraneoplastic autoantibodies. Refer to the Autoimmune Neurology/Paraneoplastic Profile (test code: 505500) for additional information if paraneoplastic processes are suspected.
Limitations
This test has been developed and its performance characteristics determined by Labcorp in accordance with CLIA requirements, but it has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. A negative result does not exclude the presence of idiopathic or paraneoplastic autoimmune epilepsy. Factors such as hemolysis, lipemia, or icterus in the sample can lead to test rejection, thus affecting the accuracy of the test results.
