Barium, Whole Blood
Use
Evaluate exposure to barium
Special Instructions
Specimen collection requires the use of a royal blue-top (EDTA) metal-free tube to avoid contamination. It is imperative that healthcare providers follow the specific collection and storage instructions to ensure the accuracy of the test results. Room temperature submission is acceptable if transportation occurs within three days; otherwise, refrigeration or freezing is necessary for longer storage.
Limitations
The test results are dependent on the proper collection, handling, and storage of the specimen. Contamination with non-metal-free collection tubes will result in rejection of the specimen. The turnaround time may vary, and additional confirmatory tests may extend the timeframe for results. The test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA and its performance characteristics were determined by Labcorp.
