Bipolaris
Also known as: Curvularia spicifera
Use
The Bipolaris test is utilized to detect specific IgE antibodies to the Bipolaris mold, which is associated with respiratory allergies such as asthma and allergic rhinitis. Identification of IgE antibodies to this allergen can assist in the diagnosis and management of allergic diseases, guiding appropriate treatment and avoidance strategies for affected individuals.
Special Instructions
Ensure the proper specimen collection container, such as a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube, is used for accurate results. Room temperature conditions should be maintained during storage for up to 14 days to ensure sample integrity. Confirmatory tests or additional reflex testing may require additional time, so allow for flexibility in scheduling and result release.
Limitations
The test is limited to the detection of specific IgE antibodies to Bipolaris, and a negative result does not necessarily exclude a clinical allergy to the mold. Cross-reactivity with other fungal allergens may occur, which can affect the specificity of the test. The test should not be used as the sole basis for an allergy diagnosis, and results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical evaluation and patient history.
