Bupivacaine, Serum or Plasma
Also known as: Marcaine®, Sensorcaine®
Use
Therapeutic drug management
Special Instructions
It is important to note that gel-barrier tubes are not recommended for sample collection. Serum or plasma should be separated from cells within two hours of venipuncture. Trough levels are most reproducible, so care should be taken to collect samples accordingly.
Limitations
This test might not be suitable for patients with varying metabolic rates, as individual differences can affect drug clearance rates, potentially leading to inaccurate blood level estimation. The use of gel-barrier tubes may result in sample rejection. Additionally, some cases might require supplementary confirmatory or reflex testing, which could extend the turnaround time beyond the standard 7 to 10 days.
