Candida Antibodies, IgG, ELISA
Use
The Candida Antibodies, IgG, ELISA test is used for the detection of IgG antibodies to Candida albicans, which can help in identifying exposure to the organism. However, a positive test result does not necessarily indicate an active infection as antibodies to Candida species can also be present in non-infected individuals due to exposure to commensal yeasts. This test is primarily used for research purposes as the performance characteristics have not been fully established for diagnostic use.
Special Instructions
This assay is not available in New York state. A positive test result should be followed by confirmation using another medically established diagnostic product or procedure.
Limitations
The performance characteristics of this product have not been fully established, meaning that results should not be used as a standalone diagnostic tool. The test cannot distinguish between antibodies formed during mucosal colonization and those produced during a significant infection. Antibodies may also be detected in patients without Candida infection, and a negative result does not exclude the possibility of deep-seated candidiasis in immunocompromised patients.
