Candida Antibodies, Qualitative
Use
Diagnose systemic candidiasis
Special Instructions
The test involves the collection of a serum specimen, which should be maintained at room temperature to ensure sample integrity. Ensure that the specimen is not lipemic or grossly contaminated with bacteria, as these can cause assay rejection.
Limitations
This assay possesses a sensitivity of approximately 50%. Candida species are commonly found in the mouth, vagina, and gastrointestinal tract of many individuals, which may affect the specificity of the test results. Positive results should be interpreted in conjunction with other clinical findings due to potential non-systemic presence of Candida.
