Cefaclor
Use
This test measures specific IgE antibodies to the antibiotic cefaclor. It is used to detect potential allergic reactions to cefaclor in patients. Being an antibiotic, cefaclor can cause hypersensitivity reactions in some individuals, and identifying sensitivity through IgE antibodies can help in clinical decisions regarding the safe use of cefaclor.
Special Instructions
Specimens for this test should be collected in a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube and require 0.2 mL of serum. Ensure that collection and storage instructions are followed to maintain specimen stability.
Limitations
Results from the IgE Cefaclor test must be interpreted within the context of the patient's clinical history. Cross-reactivity with other antibiotics can occur, and a positive result does not definitively confirm clinical allergy without other supporting clinical findings. Negative results do not rule out the possibility of cefaclor sensitivity; further clinical evaluation is recommended for ambiguous cases.
