Cinnamon
Use
The Cinnamon test is designed to detect specific IgE antibodies to cinnamon. It is used to diagnose allergies to cinnamon, a common food allergen. The presence of specific IgE indicates sensitization to the allergen, which can contribute to allergic reactions such as respiratory symptoms, skin reactions, or gastrointestinal disturbances.
Special Instructions
This test utilizes the Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP® method for detecting specific IgE. It requires a serum specimen and results are typically available within 3 to 5 days. The test may be ordered by healthcare providers based on clinical suspicion of cinnamon allergy. Specimens should be collected following standard protocols to ensure stability and accuracy of results.
Limitations
The Cinnamon test is limited to detecting specific IgE antibodies to cinnamon. A positive result indicates sensitization but does not directly correlate with clinical symptoms or severity of an allergic reaction. Negative results do not rule out an allergy, as individuals may still react through non-IgE-mediated pathways. Cross-reactivity with other allergens can occur. Clinical correlation is necessary to interpret test results accurately. Environmental factors and patient history should also be considered.
