Copper, RBC and Plasma
Use
Evaluate copper stores and accumulation
Special Instructions
Both packed cells and plasma are required for the test. It is crucial to separate the cells and plasma before shipping to prevent hemolysis of red cells and contamination of the plasma. Specimen must be received at the test facility within five days of collection to ensure accurate results.
Limitations
The test may be limited by improper specimen collection and handling, such as failure to separate plasma and red cells or specimens received more than five days after collection. Contamination of plasma from hemolysis or the presence of other interfering substances can affect the accuracy of the test results. Additionally, the test has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration, and external factors such as dietary copper intake should be considered when interpreting the results.
