Cortisol, Eight Specimens
Use
The Cortisol, Eight Specimens test is used to assess adrenal function and diagnose conditions such as Cushing's syndrome and Addison's disease. Sequential measurement of cortisol levels through multiple specimens can help determine the underlying cause of hormonal disturbances by evaluating the diurnal variation and response to ACTH stimulation.
Special Instructions
Please refer to the directions for Sequential Sampling. This test may show interference if the sample is collected from a person taking high doses of biotin. Patients should stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours before sample collection.
Limitations
The presence of biotin supplementation can interfere with the test results, leading to inaccuracies. It is important to query patients about biotin intake and advise discontinuation prior to sampling. The test is designed for diagnostic purposes and interpreting results should consider other clinical aspects.
