Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) Antibodies to Viral Capsid Antigen (VCA), IgM
Also known as: EBV-VCA Antibodies, IgM
Use
Aid in the diagnosis of acute EBV infection (infectious mononucleosis)
Special Instructions
The test is set up and reported from Monday through Friday. It is important to consider that weakly positive results require cautious interpretation. The results should not be used as a standalone diagnostic tool and must be integrated with other clinical data and patient symptoms for accurate diagnosis.
Limitations
The test is designed for qualitative determination only, meaning it can confirm the presence of EBV-VCA IgM antibodies, but it does not quantify the level of antibodies present. The numeric value of the result above the cutoff is not indicative of the concentration of EBV-VCA antibodies. Weakly positive results can be challenging to interpret and should be considered in the context of other diagnostic information. The test results are not definitive by themselves and should not be used solely for the diagnosis without considering other clinical data.
