Hirsutism Profile
Use
The Hirsutism Profile is used to evaluate androgen levels in patients presenting with symptoms of hirsutism. The profile includes measurements of key androgens: testosterone, DHEA-Sulfate, and androstenedione, aiding in the diagnosis of conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and adrenal gland disorders that can result in excessive hair growth.
Special Instructions
This test may exhibit interference when the sample is collected from a person consuming high doses of biotin. Patients should stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours before the sample collection to avoid interference with the test results.
Limitations
The test is not suitable for neonates due to potential interference. Certain medications or supplements, particularly those containing biotin, can skew results. The use of gel-barrier tubes is discouraged as the gel can absorb steroids, leading to inaccurate results.
