Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 (HIV-1) GenoSure PRIme® Plus Trofile®
Use
Detect resistance of HIV-1 to protease, reverse transcriptase, and integrase inhibitors (GenoSure PRIme®) and detect HIV-1 coreceptor tropism (Trofile®); determine eligibility for CCR5 antagonist therapy, such as maraviroc (Selzentry®)
Special Instructions
Ensure collection in lavender-top (EDTA) or plasma preparation tubes (PPT™). Centrifuge within six hours and transfer plasma to screw-cap polypropylene transport tubes. Avoid using heparinized tubes. Ship specimens frozen to avoid delays and accommodate turnaround times.
Limitations
Trofile® is recommended for patients with documented HIV-1 infection with viral load ≥1000 copies/mL. GenoSure PRIme® may not succeed if HIV viral load is <500 copies/mL plasma. Failure to obtain sufficient virus for genotype results will necessitate HIV-1 RNA quantification, billed separately. This test’s performance characteristics were determined by Labcorp; it lacks FDA clearance or approval.
