Human T-Cell Lymphotropic Virus 1, 2 (HTLV-1/HTLV-2), Qualitative
Also known as: HTLV-I/HTLV-II
Use
To screen individual human donors, including volunteer donors of whole blood and blood components, and other living donors for the presence of anti-HTLV-I/HTLV-II
Special Instructions
This is a qualitative test that detects the presence or absence of antibodies to HTLV-I/II. Ensure proper sample handling by centrifuging to separate serum or plasma, and transferring to a plastic transport tube for non-gel-barrier tubes.
Limitations
The test does not differentiate between HTLV-1 and HTLV-2. False positives or negatives can occur. Additional confirmatory or reflex tests may be needed in some cases. Testing schedule variations might affect result availability.
