Performing Lab
Immunoglobulin E, Total
Also known as: IgE
Clinical Use
Order TestUse
Evaluate immunoglobulin status in possible atopic disease
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Normal IgE levels do not exclude allergic phenomena. Although elevated IgE levels may indicate allergic conditions, a significant number of individuals with allergies and elevated IgE specificities may have normal total IgE levels. Total IgE levels are useful as a marker but not definitive on their own due to variability among individuals and conditions.
