Lobster
Use
The Lobster test is designed to measure the level of specific IgE antibodies to lobster in a patient's serum. It is primarily used for diagnosing and monitoring allergic responses to lobster, which can aid in the management of food allergies.
Special Instructions
The test is conducted using Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP® methodology. It requires a serum sample, which should be collected in a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube. Serum stability is 14 days at room temperature, 14 days refrigerated, and up to 3 months when frozen. The test is routine and does not have specific patient preparation requirements beyond standard phlebotomy procedures.
Limitations
This test is specific for lobster allergens and may not detect allergies to related shellfish or seafood. Cross-reactivity with other allergens is possible, which could lead to false positives or false negatives. The result interpretation should be combined with clinical evaluation and possibly other tests for a comprehensive allergy assessment.
