Luteinizing Hormone (LH), Two Specimens
Use
Luteinizing Hormone (LH) plays a crucial role in regulating the reproductive system by stimulating the release of eggs in females and the production of testosterone in males. Measuring LH levels can help diagnose reproductive and pituitary gland disorders, evaluate menstrual dysfunction, and assess fertility issues.
Special Instructions
This test may exhibit interference when the sample is collected from a person consuming a high dose of biotin (vitamin B7, B8, vitamin H, or coenzyme R). Patients should be cautioned to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to sample collection. Please refer to the directions for Sequential Sampling.
Limitations
The test results can be affected by biotin interference, which can lead to inaccurate results. It is crucial to get a comprehensive clinical context when interpreting LH values, as different phases of the menstrual cycle have different reference ranges. Further confirmation or reflex tests might be required to establish a definitive diagnosis.
