Lysozyme, Serum
Also known as: Muramidase, Serum
Use
Differential diagnosis of leukemia. Present in association with some cases of myelogenous leukemia and in most cases of monocytic leukemia.
Special Instructions
State patient's sex on the test request form.
Limitations
The test may lack specificity in cases of acute leukemia, with occasional false-positive results in M1, M2, and M6 classifications. Serum lysozyme levels are less specific for sarcoidosis compared to serum ACE levels. Although serum lysozyme may indicate monocytic differentiation, it may not confirm it in acute myelogenous leukemia with eosinophilia.
