Occult Blood, Fecal, Immunoassay (ColoFIT™)
Also known as: FIT, iFOBT
Use
Qualitative detection of fecal occult blood
Special Instructions
No special drug or dietary restrictions are necessary before collecting the specimen. Use the provided collection paper to obtain the fecal sample, ensuring the stool does not contact toilet water. The sample should be stored at room temperature for analysis.
Limitations
The test is intended to detect human hemoglobin in fecal samples only and is not suitable for other specimen types such as urine or gastric fluids. It is not definitive for detecting the source of gastrointestinal bleeding, as positive results indicate the need for further diagnostic investigations. Negative results do not completely exclude the presence of pathology, as bleeding may be intermittent or fecal blood may not be uniformly distributed. External factors such as menstrual bleeding or certain medications can interfere with test results. The test should not be used for patients with ongoing visible bleeding.
