Organism Identification, Mold
Also known as: Fungus Identification Reference, Reference Fungus Culture, Mold Identification
Use
Identify molds referred from another laboratory that has performed the culture of the clinical sample
Special Instructions
Multiple mold organisms identified in a single specimen may result in additional fees.
Limitations
The main limitation of this test is that it requires a pure culture of mold isolate for accurate identification. Mixed cultures or contaminated specimens may lead to rejection. Additionally, specific mold species that are not culturable or do not have distinctive features may be challenging to identify. Furthermore, identification of organisms is restricted to those that can be detected and characterized by standard methods, including DNA probe techniques, which may not cover all possible or unknown molds.
