Organism Identification, Yeast
Also known as: Reference Fungus Culture, Yeast ID
Use
Identify fungi (yeast) referred from another laboratory that has performed the culture of the clinical sample
Special Instructions
Specimens must be submitted as a pure culture of yeast isolate on a media slant. The identification of multiple organisms in a single submission will incur additional charges. It is critical to maintain the specimen at room temperature and ensure that the container is properly labeled to prevent rejection.
Limitations
This test is limited to the identification of yeasts and does not include direct testing of clinical samples. Incorrect labeling or mixed cultures can result in rejection of the specimen. Additional time may be required for further confirmatory or reflex testing, which can extend the turnaround time.
