Protein Electrophoresis With Interpretation, Cerebrospinal Fluid
Also known as: Interpretation, Protein Electrophoresis, CSF
Use
Diagnose meningitis, tuberculosis, brain abscess, meningovascular syphilis, CVA, neoplastic disease, multiple sclerosis, and other degenerative processes causing neurological disease
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
The test may not differentiate the origin (intrathecal vs serum) of monoclonal protein in CSF. High resolution electrophoresis is required for detecting oligoclonal bands, which is not part of this test (see test #019216 for oligoclonal banding). Gross hemolysis and insufficient volume (less than 0.8 mL) can cause test rejection.
