Thyroid Profile With TSH
Also known as: '99 Thyroid Profile + TSH Profile (Compliance)
Use
The Thyroid Profile With TSH is used to assess thyroid function by measuring thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroxine (T4), and T3 uptake, which are key indicators of thyroid activity. This profile helps in diagnosing and monitoring thyroid disorders, such as hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, and in evaluating the effectiveness of thyroid treatment.
Special Instructions
This test may exhibit interference if the sample is collected from an individual consuming a high dose of biotin (vitamin B7 or H). Patients should be advised to stop taking biotin supplements at least 72 hours prior to the sample collection.
Limitations
The test may not accurately reflect thyroid function in individuals who are on biotin supplementation due to potential interference with the assay. It is also important to consider that certain medications and health conditions can affect thyroid hormone levels, leading to a potential misinterpretation of the results.
