Tissue Culture
Use
Isolate and identify pathogenic organisms from tissue
Special Instructions
Specimens should be collected carefully to avoid contamination with normal flora from skin, rectum, vaginal tract, or other body surfaces. For samples where anaerobes are suspected, it is recommended to order an Anaerobic Culture with Extended Incubation. Gram Stain is advised with all tissue cultures as an additional measure. Additional charges may apply for susceptibility testing and Gram Stain.
Limitations
The test may not detect organisms in severely limited quantities or in cases where tissue samples are compromised or contaminated. False negatives may occur if pathogens are fastidious in nature or present in low concentrations. Additionally, improper sample collection and storage may influence test results. The test doesn't cover anaerobes unless specifically indicated. Further sensitivity testing may incur additional time or costs and may be necessary for comprehensive pathogen analysis.
