Tissue Culture: Aerobic and Anaerobic Bacterial Culture
Use
Tissue culture, aerobic and anaerobic (extended incubation)
Special Instructions
If reflex testing is performed due to initial results, additional charges and CPT codes may apply. Contamination with normal flora from skin, rectum, vaginal tract, or other body surfaces should be avoided when collecting specimens.
Limitations
The test is limited by its reliance on the growth of bacteria; non-cultivable organisms cannot be detected. Additionally, improper labeling, specimen storage, or contamination can lead to inaccurate results. The test may not identify all possible bacterial pathogens due to specific growth requirements or slow-growing bacteria that require longer incubation times.
