Viral Hepatitis Screening and Diagnosis (HAV, HBV, HCV)

Use
Aid in the diagnosis of viral hepatitis due to infection with HAV, HBV, and/or HCV.
Special Instructions
If reflex test is performed, additional charges/CPT code(s) may apply. Patients should be asked about biotin supplementation prior to testing, and advised to stop taking high doses of biotin at least 72 hours before sample collection to avoid test interference.
Limitations
The assays in this panel are not FDA cleared or approved for the screening of blood or plasma donors. Assay performance characteristics have not been established for immunocompromised patients, cord blood, or patients under 2 years of age. The performance has not been determined for use in cadaveric specimens. Additional time may be required for confirmatory or reflex tests.

Gel-barrier tube or serum transfer tube
Collection Instructions
Centrifuge sample within 24 hours of collection. If not using a gel-barrier tube, or if sample will be shipped frozen, transfer separated serum to a screw-cap polypropylene transport tube. Do not freeze gel-barrier tube (pour off serum first).
Storage Instructions
Refrigerated (preferred). HAV and HBV stable for 14 days at room temperature or refrigerated; HCV stable for 24 hours at room temperature, 6 days refrigerated, or 6 weeks frozen.
Causes for Rejection
Heat-inactivated specimens, cord blood, cadaveric specimens, body fluids other than serum or EDTA plasma, gross hemolysis, excessive lipemia, improper labeling, frozen gel-barrier tube
