Use
Zinc is an essential trace element. Subnormal levels are associated with alcoholic cirrhosis, cystic fibrosis, myocardial infarction, acute and chronic infections. High levels may be due to industrial exposure.
Special Instructions
Once blood is collected in a royal blue-top EDTA tube, the plasma should be separated from the red blood cells by centrifugation within 45 minutes of collection. Only the RBCs should be submitted for testing. Ensure plasma is discarded.
Limitations
The test was developed and its performance characteristics were established by Labcorp. It has not been cleared or approved by the FDA, which may limit its application for certain regulatory settings.
