Zonisamide, Serum or Plasma
Also known as: Zonegran®
Use
Monitor drug levels for optimal therapy
Special Instructions
Samples should be collected immediately prior to the patient's next dose. Zonisamide is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to sulfonamides or zonisamide. Consider discontinuing the drug if an unexplained rash develops, and frequently observe patients if the drug is discontinued.
Limitations
This test may be affected by drug half-life alterations when co-administered with P450 inducers like phenytoin and carbamazepine, leading to reduced zonisamide half-life. Results may not be accurate for patients with conditions or medications affecting metabolic pathways involving CYP3A4 and CYP2D6 enzymes.
