Parathyroid Hormone, Fine Needle Aspiration (PTH, Intact)
Use
Semiquantitative test to determine the presence of parathyroid hormone–secreting cells in fine needle aspirate specimens from the parathyroid region or adjacent sites. Detection of large amounts of intact PTH in cells not typically expressing it may indicate parathyroid tumor metastasis or ectopic parathyroid tissue.
Special Instructions
Collect fine needle aspirate using biopsy needle into sterile container with saline. Transfer approximately 1 mL into screw-cap sterile aliquot tube and freeze immediately. Transport specimen in frozen state to the laboratory.
