Detection of antibody to proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) may aid in the diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), as PCNA antibodies occur in a small subset (3–5%) of SLE patients and are associated with higher incidence of diffuse glomerulonephritis.
