Toxoplasma gondii Antibodies (IgG, IgM), ELISA, CSF
Use
This antibody panel detects IgG and IgM against Toxoplasma gondii in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). It is useful in the diagnostic evaluation of central nervous system (CNS) toxoplasmosis, especially in immunocompromised individuals. Interpretation should consider CSF‑serum antibody ratios, potential passive transfer of antibodies from blood, low CSF antibody levels, and contamination via bloody taps.
Special Instructions
Send‑out test to reference laboratory; schedule setup days as Tuesday through Friday or Tuesday and Thursday, depending on facility. Specimen must be collected in sterile container, refrigerated after collection, and shipped cold. Interpretation may be complicated by low antibody levels, passive transfer, and contamination.
Limitations
Interpretation of CSF results can be complicated by low antibody levels in CSF, passive transfer from blood, and contamination via bloody taps. Results must be interpreted with CSF‑serum antibody ratios and clinical context. Reject non‑CSF fluids and contaminated specimens.
