Yo Antibody Screen with Reflex to Titer and Western Blot, CSF
Also known as: Neuronal Nuclear (Yo) Antibody, Purkinje Cell
Use
Purkinje Cell (Yo) antibody (PCA-1) is a paraneoplastic autoantibody commonly associated with paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration and seen in patients with ovarian, uterine, small cell lung carcinomas, and Hodgkin lymphoma; in CSF, detection supports neurologic and oncologic evaluation.
Special Instructions
This is a reflex testing protocol: if the Yo Antibody screen by IFA is positive, reflex to Western Blot is performed at additional charge; if Western Blot is positive, reflex to Titer is performed at additional charge. By ordering, clinician acknowledges possible additional reflex billing.
Limitations
Analytical sensitivity is dependent on tissue immunofluorescence (IFA) screening. Negative IFA results typically do not proceed to reflex testing; therefore, low-level or atypical autoantibody patterns may be missed in absence of reflex criteria. Additional charges may apply, and reflex testing timelines may extend overall turnaround time.
