2,3 Dinor-11Beta-Prostaglandin F2 Alpha, 24-Hour Urine
Also known as: BETA PG U
Use
This test is used to screen for mast cell activation disorders. Elevated levels of 2,3-dinor-11beta-prostaglandin F2 alpha in urine can indicate conditions such as systemic mast cell disease, angioedema, diffuse urticaria, and some myeloproliferative diseases without diffuse mast cell proliferation.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Elevated levels of 2,3BPG in urine are not specific to systemic mast cell disorders as they may also appear in other conditions such as angioedema and myeloproliferative diseases without corresponding mast cell proliferation. Additionally, the accuracy of this test can be affected by the prior consumption of aspirin or NSAIDs, which are known to reduce prostaglandin levels.
