Use
Anti-mitochondrial antibodies (AMA) have been reported in the majority of patients with primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC). AMA are also occasionally found in sera of patients with other liver conditions, including chronic active hepatitis, cryptogenic cirrhosis and in patients with clinical but no biochemical evidence of liver disease.
Special Instructions
In order to avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.
Limitations
This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by LabCorp. It has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Results should be interpreted cautiously and in conjunction with other clinical findings, as there can be false positives due to other liver conditions or in cases of subclinical disease.
