Aspergillus fumigatus Antibody, IgE
Use
The Aspergillus fumigatus Antibody, IgE test is used to detect specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies to Aspergillus fumigatus, which is a type of fungus. This test can help diagnose allergic reactions such as allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) or extrinsic allergic alveolitis. Elevated levels of IgE specific to Aspergillus fumigatus may indicate hypersensitivity in individuals who display symptoms of allergy, asthma, or other related respiratory conditions.
Special Instructions
It is recommended to use a 10 mL red-top tube or 10 mL gel-barrier tube for sample collection. The test's stability requirements recommend that if the specimen is stored at room temperature or refrigerated, it remains stable for up to 14 days. If frozen, the specimen remains stable for up to 3 months. Allow up to three freeze/thaw cycles.
Limitations
The presence of IgE antibodies specific to Aspergillus fumigatus does not necessarily indicate the presence of an allergic condition as some patients have elevated levels without symptomatic expression. Cross-reactivity with other Aspergillus species could also lead to elevated readings. False positives may occur if other fungal or environmental allergens are present. Interpretation of results should be done in conjunction with clinical symptoms and other diagnostic tests.
