Beta‑2‑Glycoprotein 1 (also known as apolipoprotein H) acts as a cofactor in antiphospholipid antibody binding, and represents the critical antigen in antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS). Measurement of IgM antibodies against Beta‑2‑Glycoprotein I offers enhanced specificity compared to cardiolipin antibody, which may exhibit cross‑reactivity in patients with infections such as syphilis.

Collection Instructions
Preferred: Sodium Citrate Plasma. Collect and label sample according to standard protocols. Fill the tube to the fill line. Gently invert tube 5 times immediately after draw. Do not shake. Centrifuge tube for 15 minutes at approximately 1500 x g within 60 minutes of collection. Using a plastic pipette, remove plasma without the buffy coat, place into plastic vial, centrifuge again and transfer platelet‑poor plasma (<10,000/mcL) into a new plastic vial. Label as “NaCit Plasma” and cap tightly. Transport at 2–8 °C and ship same day per shipping instructions.
Storage Instructions
Store specimen at 2 °C to 8 °C after collection and ship same day per packaging instructions.
