Use

CD45 by immunohistochemistry (IHC), also known as leukocyte common antigen (LCA), is used to detect hematolymphoid lineage cells and distinguish lymphoma/leukemia from other neoplasms. It is highly sensitive and specific for hematolymphoid cells, and is performed as a technical ‘stain and return’ service. Interpretation by a pathologist is not included in this test. Clinical correlation with patient history and additional testing is recommended.

Special Instructions

This is a stain-and-return technical service only. Submit via electronic request or use ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) if necessary. Specimen must be formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue or cell block, transported in ARUP tissue transport kit #47808 (min. 2 slides). Do not oven bake precut slides. Protect from excessive heat. Store at room temperature or refrigerated; use cooled container in summer. Unstained slides (3–5 μm, positively charged) or blocks acceptable. Ambient, refrigerated, and frozen stability: indefinitely. Depleted or non-representative specimens unacceptable. New York State Dept. of Health approval confirmed.

Limitations

Technical service only; pathologist interpretation is not provided and must be ordered separately. Specimens that are depleted or non-representative will be rejected. Oven-baked slides are unacceptable. Cells must be prepared in a cell block if not tissue. Method is limited to detection of CD45 by IHC; cannot detect other markers or diagnoses. Interpretation must consider clinical context.

Collection Instructions

Formalin fix (10% neutral buffered formalin), paraffin embed specimen. Transport tissue block or min. 2 unstained positively charged slides (3–5 μm thick). Do not oven bake slides.
