Use
This test is used to monitor replacement therapy in patients with coenzyme Q deficiencies. It is not useful for the diagnosis of coenzyme Q deficiency. Coenzyme Q10 is a fat-soluble antioxidant involved in mitochondrial electron transport and ATP production, and its measurement can assist in evaluating the efficacy of supplementation therapy in individuals with hereditary coenzyme Q deficiency syndromes.
Special Instructions
Patient should fast overnight prior to specimen collection. Patient may have water and it is not necessary to discontinue nutritional supplements prior to the test.
Limitations
This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by ARUP Laboratories, and it has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. It is performed in a CLIA certified laboratory and is intended for clinical purposes. The test may not be reliable in hemolyzed specimens or samples exposed to repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

Collection Instructions
Separate plasma from cells within 1 hour of collection and transfer to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.
Patient Preparation
Patient should fast overnight prior to specimen collection. Water is allowed, and nutritional supplements do not need to be stopped.
