Use
This test aids in the diagnosis of CASPR2 antibody disorders, which are associated with acquired neuromyotonia, limbic encephalitis, painful neuropathy, and Morvan syndrome. It is also used to manage patients who are antibody-positive for CASPR2 following immunotherapy and/or plasmapheresis. The presence of CASPR2 IgG antibody may occur as part of the voltage-gated potassium channel (VGKC) complex antibodies, and is associated with a spectrum of clinical manifestations. Results should be interpreted in conjunction with the patient's clinical history and other laboratory findings.
Special Instructions
If the CASPR2 Antibody IgG is positive, an additional titer test will be conducted, incurring more charges. It is performed via a semi-quantitative cell-based indirect fluorescent antibody assay using CASPR2 transfected cell lines.
Limitations
This test has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and was developed by ARUP Laboratories. It is performed in a CLIA certified lab and is intended for clinical purposes. The full spectrum of clinical disorders and tumors associated with the CASPR2 IgG antibody is still being defined.
