Use
Aid in the diagnosis of acute EBV (infectious mononucleosis) and EBV reactivation in conjunction with other serologic tests. The appearance of IgG antibodies to EA(D) is generally associated with the primary (acute) stage of EBV infection. For most individuals, EA(D) IgG antibodies are transient and are ogten undetectable after 6 months while VCA IgG antibodies persist indefinitely.
Special Instructions
Results for this test should not be used as a standalone diagnostic tool and must be considered alongside other clinical data and patient symptoms. This test is intended for qualitative determination. Numerical values of results above the cutoff do not indicate the quantity of EBV-EA or EBV-VCA antibodies.
Limitations
The test results are not definitive on their own and must be interpreted in the context of overall clinical presentation and other diagnostic tests. It is intended solely for qualitative determination, meaning that quantitative measurement of EBV-EA or EBV-VCA antibodies is not possible.
