Use
This test is recommended for the differential diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and Sjogren syndrome. It detects antibodies against specific extractable nuclear antigens (ENAs) which are associated with connective tissue diseases such as Sjogren syndrome and systemic lupus erythematosus. Antibodies like Smith/RNP, Smith, SSA 52, SSA 60, and SSB are significant in identifying specific autoimmune responses in these conditions.
Special Instructions
Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible or within two hours of collection. After separation, the serum must be transferred to an ARUP standard transport tube. Ensure that the specimen remains refrigerated during transport.
Limitations
The test is not suitable for plasma or other body fluids, bacterially contaminated specimens, or severely lipemic specimens. Antibody presence can vary and may not represent the full scope of autoimmune activity in all patients. Interpret results in conjunction with clinical findings, other laboratory tests, and patient history.
