FISH, Burkitt’s/NHL/ALL, IGH/MYC, t(8;14)
Use
This fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assay detects the translocation t(8;14) involving immunoglobulin heavy chain (IGH) and MYC, a hallmark rearrangement found in the majority of Burkitt lymphoma and subsets of other aggressive B‑cell neoplasms, including some high‑grade B‑cell lymphomas. Detection of this translocation aids in differential diagnosis and diagnosis confirmation in relevant hematologic malignancies.
Special Instructions
Insurance authorization is required prior to specimen draw for outpatient settings; specimens must be submitted using a Hematopathology Specimen Transport box. Whole blood or bone marrow specimens are preferred; supporting tissue types (fresh tissue or FFPE) may also be acceptable. Daily setup is performed at the Quest Diagnostics San Juan Capistrano facility.
Limitations
A negative result may not exclude a MYC rearrangement involving non‑IGH partners or in cases of low neoplastic cell fraction. Fresh tissues or FFPE specimens may have variable analytical performance due to sample preservation state. Processing and transport conditions must be carefully followed to preserve specimen integrity.
