Use

This test facilitates the diagnosis of Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) and B-cell lymphoma with features intermediate between BL and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). It detects all MYC rearrangements, including translocations t(8;14), t(2;8), and t(8;22). MYC rearrangement is seen in a variety of B-cell lymphomas, including 'double hit' or 'triple hit' lymphomas, and results should be correlated with clinical, morphologic, and immunophenotypic data.

Special Instructions

The specimen provided must be accompanied by a surgical pathology report. If multiple specimens (blocks or slides) are submitted to ARUP, an order comment indicating the ARUP pathologist should choose the appropriate specimen for testing or individual orders for each sample must accompany them. A Pathologist Block Selection Fee (ARUP test code 3002076) will be added if the pathologist selection option is utilized.

Limitations

This test is expected to detect 100 percent of MYC rearrangements in patients with MYC-rearranged lymphomas, except for rare instances of cryptic rearrangements. The use of this assay on decalcified tissues has not been validated, so results should be interpreted with caution. It has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and was developed by ARUP Laboratories.

Collection Instructions

Formalin fix (10 percent neutral buffered formalin) and paraffin-embed specimen. Use ARUP supply #47808 for transportation.

Storage Instructions

Protect paraffin block from excessive heat. Transport tissue block or 5 unstained slides in a tissue transport kit. Use a cooled container during summer months.

Causes for Rejection

Paraffin block with no tumor tissue remaining. Specimens fixed in any fixative other than 10 percent neutral buffered formalin. Decalcified specimens.
